Nursery
Session times
Our on-site Nursery offers 15 hours of fully funded early years education for children from the term after their third birthday.
We currently offer a morning session from 8:30am–11:30am, Monday to Friday.
Subject to availability, there may also be opportunities to access afternoon sessions.
Our routine
Our Nursery day combines adult-led teaching, adult-initiated learning and child-initiated play. This gives children opportunities to develop new knowledge and skills with adults, before applying and extending their learning independently through play.
Our Nursery approach is closely aligned with our Reception provision, providing consistency, progression and a smooth transition through the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Carpet sessions
Throughout the week, children take part in a range of short, engaging carpet sessions, including:
- Phonics – using Little Wandle
- Literacy – using Drawing Club
- Mathematics – using NCETM approaches
- Topic (varying each half term) – using PKC
- RE and PSHE – using Jigsaw
Challenge time
Each day, children have Challenge Time, where they explore and apply their learning through play. Children can choose from a range of challenges within our continuous provision, both indoors and outdoors, allowing them to develop their independence, creativity and problem-solving skills.
Physical development
Physical development is an important part of our Nursery provision. Throughout the week, children have opportunities to develop both their gross and fine motor skills through:
- A weekly PE session
- Daily movement sessions
- Daily Dough Disco
- A range of physical development opportunities within our indoor and outdoor provision
Snack time
Each day, children enjoy a healthy snack of free fruit and a choice of milk or water. Children are encouraged to make their own choices and, as their independence develops, are supported to peel fruit and pour their own drinks.
Snack time is also a special opportunity to share a story, develop communication and language skills and nurture a love of reading.

Supporting your child at home
Before your child starts Nursery, you will be invited to visit our setting, meet the Nursery team and find out more about your child’s experiences. This also gives us the opportunity to learn about your child’s needs, interests and experiences, helping us to provide the best possible start.
We also offer Stay and Play sessions to help children become familiar with the Nursery environment and begin to feel confident and secure before they start.
Before starting Nursery, we encourage families to support their child in becoming as independent as possible with toileting. Children should be potty trained or working towards being toilet independent.
One of the most valuable things you can do at home is share books, stories, songs and rhymes with your child. These simple experiences support communication and language, build vocabulary, develop listening skills and help children develop a lifelong love of reading.
We also use Tapestry to share children's learning and experiences with families and share learning challenges to support learning at home. We love seeing what children have been doing at home too, so please share your child's achievements, interests and experiences with us!
